Menopause and Sleep: Woolroom Awarded MTick® Certification

This Menopause Awareness Month, we’re proud to have been awarded the MTick® certification by GenM, marking our commitment to helping women sleep better throughout menopause.

Our mission is to support women through every stage of their menopause journey, with completely natural, chemical-free materials and credible evidence that allows them to rest easy in their bedding choices.

Expertly crafted to manage heat and moisture, our certified wool bedding helps create a cooler, drier and more comfortable sleep environment when menopause and night sweats disrupt your rest.

What is the MTick® certification?

The MTick® is GenM’s universal symbol and certification for menopause friendly products.

It is designed to make it easier to find products that have been independently assessed against clear criteria and shown to support one or more of the 48 recognised signs of menopause, with two of the most common and disruptive symptoms being night sweats and sleep issues, including insomnia.

To qualify, a product must satisfy at least one of GenM’s evidence requirements. This may include authorised health, cosmetic or medicinal claims; statistically significant clinical or user trials involving menopausal women; or independently tested technology, functionality or materials that support a menopause-related need.

Menopause and sleep problems? Know the signs

Menopause has a huge impact on sleep – with night sweats, changes in body temperature and insomnia very common sleep-related signs reported by those experiencing perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause.

Fluctuations in body temperature and night sweats can make it particularly difficult to stay comfortable, sleep consistently through the night and gain the recommended eight hours of deep, restorative sleep required for a healthy mind and body.

As a key pillar of our overall health, sleep disturbances and menopause can create a ripple effect. From your mood and mental health to your immune system and cognitive function, losing precious hours of sleep throughout your menopause journey often exacerbates other menopause-related symptoms.

How can wool bedding help with menopause symptoms?

This is where wool bedding comes in. The air pockets within wool’s fibres transmit heat and moisture away from the body more effectively than any other fibre type, with research conducted in 2026 by Bangor University and the International Wool and Textile Organisation (IWTO) evidencing wool’s abilities.

This breathability helps to prevent that familiar feeling of waking up hot and sweaty, creating a more comfortable sleep environment for those experiencing temperature changes. With less sleep disruption comes a deeper, more restorative sleep, leaving you feeling like your best self the next day.

Independent testing in Woolroom’s also found that wool allowed 43% more moisture transmission than polyester and 67% more than feather and down duvets. The report also demonstrated:

Why the MTick® certification matters to Woolroom

For Woolroom, the MTick® certification is an important recognition of the need for trusted sleep solutions that help women create a healthy and comfortable sleep environment.

We know that sleep problems during menopause are rarely limited to the occasional restless night. Woolroom’s research found that women surveyed lost more than two hours of sleep each night on average because of their symptoms, with disrupted sleep continuing for around four years.

We’ve heard countless stories from real women about their struggles and heard firsthand how the simple switch to wool bedding can completely transform their sleep.

We want to empower women with information that enables them to make the best choices for their sleep, and ultimately their health and wellbeing.

Making menopause friendly choices easier

While menopause and sleep are highly connected, finding natural, reliable, trusted products relevant to specific sleep concerns is not always straightforward. That’s why clear, independent signposting is essential to improve understanding of the evidence-backed products women can trust, and how those products can help the menopause journey.

By joining the GenM collective and gaining MTick® certification for selected bedding, we’re building on our work to provide trusted information and practical options for people navigating night sweats, overheating and sleep disruption.

Menopause affects everyone differently. If symptoms are persistent, severe or causing concern, speak to a GP or another qualified healthcare professional for personalised advice.

FAQs

What is the MTick®?
The MTick® is a universal shopping symbol indicating a product has been independently tested and certified as menopause-friendly. It means the product eases, supports or relieves one or more of the 48 recognised symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

Who created the MTick®?
GenM created the MTick® as a way for women to easily identify menopause-friendly products that have been independently tested and certified. It launched in 2023 in partnership with Boots and has been adopted by retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Next and Holland & Barrett.

How does a product qualify for the MTick®?
A product qualifies in one of three ways: health claims backed by regulatory bodies such as the EFSA or FDA; clinical testing with menopausal women that shows statistically significant results; or independent testing proving its materials or technology support menopause-related needs. Brands also need a Trustpilot score of 4 stars or above.

Which Woolroom products carry the MTick®?
Pillows, duvets, mattress toppers, mattress protectors, pillow protectors and covers, and extra wool filling across the Classic, Deluxe Washable and Organic Washable ranges carry the MTick®.

Does the MTick® mean a product cures menopause symptoms?
No. The MTick® shows that a product can help ease or manage symptoms, but nothing cures menopause. It's a natural life stage. The MTick® isn't a medical certification, so speak to your GP if you're concerned about your symptoms.
