Washing a wool duvet often makes people feel a little nervous. Ordinarily, washing wool has to be a carefully planned operation, as the heat and moisture of your washing machine would usually leave the natural fibres in a less than desirable state.
But learning how to wash a duvet made of wool without ruining it doesn’t have to be a military operation. In fact, keeping your Woolroom duvet clean and fresh is simple. So if you’re wondering: “can you wash a wool duvet?”, the answer is yes. Find out how to wash a wool duvet in three simple steps below.
1. Firstly, select the wool cycle on your washing machine (or the most gentle setting available)
2. Remember to add specialist wool detergent
3. Hang out your duvet to dry

When you first buy it… there’s no need!
Have you just bought a washable wool duvet? Getting used to the naturally soft and heat-regulating qualities of the wool? If you’ve only just started using it, there’s really no need to wash it just yet.
The wool that we use to make our super-soft duvets has already been treated with a biodegradable cleaning detergent before it reaches you. That way, you benefit from the naturally occurring benefits of wool – moisture absorbing, thermo-regulating, magic – without having to machine wash it before your head hits the pillow.
In a month or two… it’s still not likely.
One of the main benefits of using a duvet made of wool is its self-cleaning properties. Wool is well-known for its ability to remain dry and clean, cleverly absorbing moisture and making it difficult for any bacteria or fungus to set up camp. That makes our washable duvets easy to care for as the wool does all the work for you.
So there really is no need for washing a wool duvet just yet. If you want to freshen it up a little, simply hang it outside to air – it really is that easy to keep fresh and clean.
In 6-12 months… if you really want to!
Wondering how to wash a wool duvet inner? Of course, our washable wool duvets can be machine washed to remove any stains on the cotton outers. But with wool, you hardly need to wash it at all. Its naturally hygienic qualities mean that it remains clean and dry, and able to wick moisture away from the body as you sleep, keeping you comfortably warm and dry.

"How Do I Freshen Up My Secondhand Wool Duvet?"
I was given a pre-used wool duvet. The cover is clean but it smells stale. How can I fix this please?
Woolroom's Customer Care Team Hi Mari,
It is difficult to say without knowing what duvet you have, some are washable at home and others can only be dry cleaned, usually putting a duvet out on the line is enough to freshen it up as wool will absorb the smell of its surroundings but there is a possibly that something may have been spilled on it or something like that which could be in fibres causing this, it would be best to have it cleaned but without knowing what you have it is hard to offer the correct advice, if you contact us by phone or livechat through our website we will be happy to discuss with you.
Kind regards,
Woolroom

Good afternoon, my deluxe lambs wool duvet was purchased in 2016, there are no marks or stains on outer cover & I hang it out to air frequently, so have never washed it? Would still recommend no need to wash or dry clean.

"Washing A Woolroom Duvet Marked 'Dry Clean Only'"
Afternoon,We have a king Size medium wool duvet (order 1130421) and the cat was sick on it last night. Nice.
We usually get our duvets (down and articificial fillings) dry cleaned in town and the label on this duvet says "Dry Clean Only" so ... it turns out that Johnsons don't dry clean duvets for Health & Safety reasons - they just wash them.
Can we wash this duvet like it says in https://www.thewoolroom.com/blog/can-you-wash-a-wool-duvet/ ?
Many thanks, and best wishes for 2022

"Clean My Wool Duvet"
Hi I bought my wool duvet about 2 yrs ago I think, it's got a few stains on now, I wanted to wash it but have to hang out to dry, it's winter so thays not possible, could I just put a stain remover on in patches and let it dry in the house, will the chemicals I use ruin it?
Woolroom's Customer Care Team We would first recommend using just a warm water and wool detergent to spot wash, and repeating this process. We wouldn't be able to guarantee that chemicals would not damage the product I am afraid.
